Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention
April is sexual assault awareness month! This month's goal at htE as well as other nonprofit organizations is to raise awareness on the sexual violence that affects many people throughout the country. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 3 women and nearly 1 in 4 men have experienced sexual violence at some point in their lives through physical contact. The statistics for rape and attempted rape is nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 38 men. What is truly horrifying is that 8 out of 10 rapes are committed by someone known to the victim.
Fortunately, there are ways that one can prevent sexual assault from occurring. The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), have created four steps that can protect your friends from some form of sexual assault called C.A.R.E. It is important to note that this is not a foolproof way to prevent sexual assault. RAINN also provides methods and warning signs to find out if your loved one has been sexually assaulted.

We hope that we have increased your awareness of sexual assault and the prevalence of it. We hope that you can also raise awareness by sharing this blog post as well as the many websites we have provided!
